Ski trip 2019
Every year the winter sports committee strives to organize a legendary skiing trip for their beloved KIC-colleagues. Escaping from Groningen for a week to recharge after the exam week by enjoying social and sporting activities together. Like the many years before, this year the winter sports committee has done everything within their power to ensure a semi-sporty week to calm everyone down from the exam week.
Due to the absence of the editorial committee, this column is entirely based on some sporadic notations made by very helpful members. Capturing the trip in its full glory and putting it down on paper is a challenge by itself, not having gone on the trip makes it even harder but I’m going to try my best.
The members left for sunny Valfréjus in the French alps on Saturday, February the 2nd. Upon arrival everyone immediately went on to conquer the slopes to make optimal use of every minute. This mindset continued throughout the next day. The whole day was spent skiing, except for the evening. That evening a pub crawl was organized. Normally, pub crawls are heavier than normal nights out. This time however, our members had been skiing all day so the drinks hit them harder than expected which resulted in hazy heads and little skiing the next day.
The remainder of the week continued as a mixture between skiing and drinking. On the final day of the trip, one of the members decided to up the ante by having a little tumble down the slopes after a failed test drive using the skiing instructors’ skis. Marten Duit had to be flown to the nearest hospital in a helicopter but after thorough inspection nothing seemed to be broken so he was in time to catch up with the rest of the members just as they were about to go home.
The notations tell me that the bus was eerily quiet during the journey home. If you ask me, there is no better indicator of a successful trip. Having fun is tiring. Thank you winter sport committee!
